GCP-day 2017

On Monday the 13th of November Rysensteen Gymnasium held its 7th Global Citizenship Programme-Day, also known as GCP-day in collaboration with the magazine Ræson. As it has been the case every year, an impressive number of politicians and experts came to debate a long list of subjects under the overall theme ‘Sustainable democracy’.

Lead by Clement Kjærsgaard the day opened up with Minister of Higher Education and Science Søren Pind and Martin Lidegaard in an interesting talk about the challenges of democracy in Russia and Turkey.

While the 1. years listened to a talk about the enemies of democracy with Clement, the 2. and 3. years saw the rest of the 11 movies brought back from the 3. years GCP-travels. Between the movies invited guests and students debated the subjects shown in the movies.

The day ended with workshops across the years, where the 3. years showed all of the movies made during their travels, while the 1. and 2. years were able to learn more about the country they are going to visit on their own GCP-travel.

All in all a day that made us all more knowledgable on subjects as varied as democracy, menstruation cups, Iceland’s electricity consumption and the ability of art to push political agendas. At the end Clement praised the 3. years on their movies and all of the good questions from the students.
