A letter from 3.c in Egypt

It has been tree days since we arrived in Cairo. Since then we have experienced a lot. After having meet up with our Egyptian hosts (again) and having had 5 hours of sleep, we drove in a bus out to the citadel from the school. For the first time we encountered real Egyptian traffic, where carts pulled by donkeys on the motorway isn’t a rare sight. The citadel is an old medieval fortress from back in the days when Egypt was a monarchy. It was almost a city on its own with houses for the maids and servants and an enormous mosque. There was at least 20 meter too the ceiling and decorated gold, carpets and arab writings. After the mosque the plan was to visit an Egyptian military museum. But in a classic Egyptians way the museum was suddenly closed and we had to change our plans. In the evening we went to the mall to see a football match between Barcelona and Juventus. The young Egyptians always meet up in malls after school to hang out with their friends.

The day after we visited the Danish embassy, where we listened to a presentation from the boss from The Danish-Egyptian Dialogue Institute and meet the Danish ambassador in Cairo. The Danish-Egyptian dialogue institute is an institute who does a great deal of work to maintaining the relationship between Denmark and Egypt and generally improve conditions in Egypt. In the evening some of us joined a wedding while the rest of us went to the mall again to watch Champions League.

In Egypt the weekend is Friday to Saturday as there is Friday prayer on Fridays. After the weekend we are going to see the pyramids and on a Nile cruise.

Greetings
