Taler fra Rysmun 2024

Andrea Sun Hertz, 3.a

Secretary genneral

"Madam Vice Secretary General, Honorable excellencies, hardworking staff, esteemed guests, ladies and gentlemen and anyone who may identify otherwise.

I am honored to be this years Secretary General and to officially welcome you to the Rysensteen Model United Nations 2024.

I would first like to give you all a warm welcome especially to those of you who have travelled far to get here.

Now this year the topics that we will be discussing differ from Womens and minorities rights in the middle east to the fentanyl crisis to the distribution and legislation of arctic territory.

(...)

And eventhough the world is filled with chaos these students have all managed to come together and take part in planning this model united nations conference. I believe THAT shows great hope for the future. Because with the energy that we have all have put into this little conference I can’t wait to see what we will all accomplish in the future.

Now Rysensteen Model United Nations is a bit different than other Model UN conferences. Unlike others all 2nd year students have to participate as a part of the Global Citizenship programme and the international students present are from our partner schools around the world.

We are extremely greatful that you all made your way to Copenhagen. Because of this, most of you present have no experience with Model UN whatsoever.

Therefore I would like to give a little piece of advise to you all.

I have done MUN conferences since I started at Rysensteen, and though it is intimidating at first it is extremely fun when you get into it. And though I hope for great debates and innovative resolutions my greates hope is that you will all have fun!

And though you might not be interested in international politics and diplomacy I would hope that you give it a try. Consider this conference as an excellent chance to switch things up and take a break from the lengthy lectures and exams.

Furthermore, I have come to learn that Model United Nations is a great way to connect with people from different countries. Now what has stuck with me from every Model united Nations conference that I attended are the amazing friendships I have made along the way.

Many of the people you see up here are people I have gotten to know through model united nations. It is what can make this experience special for everyone.

So my advise to all of you is to enjoy your next few days here in Copenhagen and take the time to connect with the your fellow delegates and chairs. By the end, I hope each of you will have established new friendships spanning the globe.

With that I wish you all a great few days here at Rysensteen filled with fruitful debates and hopefully also much fun.

I will now officially declare Rysensteen Model United Nations 2024 open."

Uddrag:

“Nowadays, criticism of the UN has become commonplace. Many
politicians and journalists alike seem to have chosen the UN as an
easy prey, describing the institution as inefficient and irrelevant.
Even suggesting the world would be better off without the United
Nations
It is only fair that an institution such as the UN is criticized. That’s
how an open and democratic international society should function.
But many of the skeptics seem to have forgotten to ask themselves
one important question:
What would the world look like if it didn't have the UN?
The answer to this question is not of a theoretical nature.
In a not-so-distant past, the UN did not exist.

When suggesting that the world would be better off without the UN,
it is worth remembering that the United Nations grew out of the
ashes of the 2nd world war - the deadliest and most devastating war
the world has ever seen.
The UN is by no means perfect - but it does provide a setting where
even the fiercest of enemies can meet to try to resolve
disagreements by dialogue and compromise instead of guns and
cannons.“
