3e in Canada 2024

Dumplings, jerk chicken, or the crispiest croissants?

Toronto has it all! The city is the most multicultural in the world, and the students from 3e got to experience this both at the hostel and during their homestay. Toronto is a mosaic of people and cultures, but one thing all Canadians share is a hospitality that kept smiles on the faces of the students from start to finish. Our partner school, University of Toronto Schools, worked with us to create a program focused on the representation of Indigenous peoples in modern Canadian society. We tried “smudging,” where sage smoke clears away bad energy, explored street art, and went hiking in the beautiful nature near Niagara Falls. We listened to the partner school's 80-member string orchestra perform on the national holiday, “National Day of Truth and Reconciliation,” and attended a memorial ceremony in Toronto's largest square. The Canadian families warmly welcomed the students from 3e, and during the six days of homestay, they enjoyed a hockey game, a dumpling workshop, violin lessons, Jewish celebrations, and hours of great conversations about what it's like to be young in Canada and Denmark. One thing is for sure: it was awesome to be a young Dane visiting Toronto!
