3a in Argentina 2024

3a has been to Buenos Aires. There, they visited the partner school and participated in both lessons and a sports day with the Argentine students. Among other things, they danced tango and played football against the Argentinians.

In addition, they gained an impression of the city's stark contrasts, from the very wealthy gated communities just outside the city to the poorer areas in the neighborhood of Boca, where Maradona and Messi are celebrated everywhere in the streets. The contrasts have grown in recent years, as the very high inflation rates have significantly increased poverty in the country. Today, more than half of Argentinians live in poverty. In this context, 3a participated in charity work by helping to prepare and serve food for the poor and vulnerable citizens at the church La Redonda. It was a great experience to meet the many volunteers and hear about the church's significant work for the city's most vulnerable citizens.

On the last evening of the class' homestay, we were invited to see the football club Platense play against the major club River Plate at Platense's home ground.

We were welcomed by Platense's sports director and had the opportunity to experience Argentina's unique football culture up close.

After the homestay outside Buenos Aires, the students moved into the city of Buenos Aires. They shared: We spent our time visiting the rival major clubs Boca and River Plate's club museums. Historically, the clubs have been associated with the working class and upper class of the city, respectively.

At the museums, the students from 3a explored how class origins were reflected in the portrayal of fans and club history.

Additionally, the students spent an entire evening dancing tango with seven private instructors in the historic district of San Telmo. It was super fun, and the class is looking forward to showing the rest of the school how much they've learned on the citizenship day.
